When Xerox completed its acquisition of Lexmark on 29 July 2025, the question for every Hong Kong IT decision-maker became: what changes for me? This article answers that question with the eight operational impacts that matter for procurement, IT, finance, and security teams in 2026.
What Actually Changed on 29 July 2025
The transaction transferred ownership of Lexmark International from its previous private-equity owners to Xerox Holdings Corporation. Both companies continue to operate as separate product brands: Lexmark-branded devices and Xerox-branded devices are still sold and serviced under their respective product names, and existing warranties, supply contracts, and partner networks remain in force.
For Hong Kong B2B customers, the practical changes are downstream of that single corporate transaction. Below are the eight that actually affect you.
Impact 2: The Local Service Network is Unchanged
LSHK’s Hong Kong engineering team was never absorbed into any global Xerox service queue and continues to operate as a local team with locally employed engineers. Service-level agreements, response times, and spare-parts logistics continue to apply as before.
The standard LSHK SLA — 4-hour initial response plus next-business-day on-site engineering, subject to engineer availability and the actual environment — applies to all Lexmark and Xerox equipment supplied by LSHK. Existing contracts retain their terms; the merger does not retroactively modify them.
Impact 3: Genuine OEM Consumables Continue
All toner cartridges, drums, and parts supplied by LSHK are sourced directly from the manufacturer — Lexmark Unison toner for Lexmark devices, genuine Xerox toner for Xerox devices. Compatible or remanufactured consumables are not part of the LSHK standard supply chain.
For an office subject to quality or compliance audits, this means the consumables supply chain is auditable back to the manufacturer. For a finance team tracking per-page cost, the all-in rental cost includes genuine OEM consumables — there is no per-cartridge line item to manage.
Impact 4: Procurement Teams Can Now Compare Both Product Lines Side-by-Side
Before the merger, procurement teams that wanted to do an apples-to-apples comparison of Lexmark vs Xerox MFPs had to engage with two separate suppliers, manage two separate quote processes, and reconcile two separate contract terms. After the merger, a single LSHK quote can present the full Lexmark + Xerox product line on the same contract template, with the same SLA, the same response time, the same terms.
This is most useful for offices in the 20–80 staff range, where the right machine is often a near-call between two models from different brands. Read our Xerox AltaLink C8155 vs VersaLink C405 comparison for an example of this kind of side-by-side decision.
Impact 5: A Common Security Roadmap
One of the merger’s most useful operational consequences is the convergence of security features across the two product lines. Both Lexmark and Xerox now share a common security framework that includes:
- Hard-disk encryption (AES-256) as standard on enterprise MFPs
- TLS 1.3 for all network communication
- Firmware verification at boot
- SIEM integration for security event logging
- Common Criteria certification on high-end models (AltaLink C8170, AltaLink C8155 under evaluation)
For a Hong Kong office subject to the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) or HKMA third-party risk guidance, this convergence reduces the cost of maintaining a multi-vendor security policy.
Impact 6: Expanded Product Line Coverage
The combined Lexmark + Xerox product line now covers the full range of office printing needs. LSHK supplies and services the following product families in Hong Kong:
- Lexmark monochrome and colour MFPs: CX, MX, XC, CS, MS, C, B, MB series
- Xerox AltaLink (A3 colour MFPs): C8130 / C8135 / C8145 / C8155 / C8170
- Xerox AltaLink (A3 monochrome MFPs): B8045 / B8065 / B8075 / B8090
- Xerox VersaLink (A4 MFPs): B400 / B600 / C400 / C500 / C7000 series
- Xerox WorkCentre (A3 MFPs): 6515 / 6515V / 6655 / 7220 / 7225 / 7830 / 7835 / 7845 / 7855
- Xerox Phaser (single-function printers): 6500 / 6600 / 6700 / 7100 / 7500 / 7800 series
- Xerox DocuMate: document scanners
- Xerox PrimeLink: production colour presses
- Xerox iSeries: production monochrome presses
- Xerox B8100 series (monochrome MFPs): B8145 / B8155 / B8170
Impact 7: Pricing Structure
Pricing for LSHK rental plans is set per machine and per volume band. The merger has not introduced headline-price changes for either brand; what it has changed is the ability to mix-and-match equipment on a single consolidated contract. For example:
- One AltaLink C8155 for the marketing department (high-volume colour)
- One Lexmark CX825 for the legal department (high-volume monochrome, large paper capacity)
- Two VersaLink C405 units for satellite offices (compact A4 colour)
All four machines on a single 36-month LSHK contract, with a single SLA, a single account manager, and a single monthly invoice. This was not operationally possible before the merger.
Impact 8: Migration Path for Existing Customers
Customers with an existing Lexmark-only or Xerox-only LSHK contract do not need to take any action. Your existing terms, SLA, and equipment continue to apply. When your contract comes up for renewal, you can choose to:
- Renew on the same product line at the same terms
- Add complementary equipment from the other product line on the same contract
- Migrate to a fully different product line (e.g. moving from VersaLink to AltaLink as your volume grows)
For migration scenarios, LSHK provides a free 30-minute consultation covering volume assessment, current-cost TCO analysis, and a side-by-side comparison of three machine options at your volume tier.
What Did NOT Change
To be explicit about what stayed the same:
- LSHK remains a Hong Kong-registered company (BR 77448116), not absorbed into any global Xerox entity
- LSHK’s local engineering team and locally employed staff continue to handle all Hong Kong service calls
- Existing contracts retain their original terms — the merger does not retroactively modify them
- The 4-hour initial response SLA continues to apply
- All toner, drums, and parts are still sourced directly from the manufacturer
- Sales and support contacts (hello@lexmark-hk.com, +852 2180 2508, +852 2180 2508 WhatsApp) are unchanged
